Confessions of a Non-Singer

This month our theme is ‘Singing and the Art of Communion’. There is no denying that music stirs the heart and elevates the spirit.  Singing though, requires active participation. Which is why singing is communal. Yet, nothing feels less communal than being a non-singer is a community of singers. Everyone is having a wonderful time making beautiful sounds together and then someone, like me, opens their mouth and everyone looks in my direction. It’s enough to make one slink from the room.  Yet singing really is a beautiful communal experience. So how do we incorporate everyone? How do we make space for singers and non-singers alike? Can we be truly welcoming?
