Welcome to Theme Based ministry!
What is theme-based ministry?
The Fellowship has a different theme each month which we explore in our Sunday services, children’s program and a monthly adult small group. This allows us to connect across age-groups and reflect more deeply on certain areas of our lives and community. A monthly theme packet is available for you to explore, whether in the adult small group, in your family, on your own, or with another small group. (See Soul Matters packets attached below.)
The adult small group, Soul Matters Sharing Circle, meets once a month to explore how the congregation’s monthly theme can be woven into our lives (get more information below).
The Sunday Services committee has chosen the following themes to share with the congregation for the upcoming program year 2017-2018. Here are the themes that will be explored this year:
September – Covenant
October – Healing
November – Identity
December – Presence
January – Transcendence
February – Interdependence
March – Risk
April – Change
May – Embodiment
June – Freedom
Some of our services will focus on the monthly themes directly and others will touch on the theme in some small way.
- To mine the moments of your life for wisdom, courage, hope and love.
- To cultivate conversations that open the heart and soul to our common humanity.
- To swim beneath the surface of daily life and engage in conversations that matter.
- To meet human longing by cultivating connections and a sense of belonging.
- To explore theme-based spiritual practices.
- To practice intentional and guided spiritual and philosophical reflection.
As we explore the monthly theme, you are invited to be curious. Allow yourself to be surprised by what you find. Share what you are learning with someone you meet along the way.
In preparation for our meeting, a packet of materials about the theme is sent out at the beginning of each month. There are two things required (from options provided in the theme packet):
- You choose one spiritual exercise each month to try out
- You choose one question from a list to ponder during that month
Also for your own interest, you can browse through the various readings, consider if you want to see any of the film suggestions or online videos, and there are also there are book titles (in case you want to read one)—none of those are mandatory.
This group will be facilitated by Rev. Meg Roberts, our part-time Consulting Minister.
If you would like to come and try out this group and see if it is a fit for you, our first meeting for this congregational year is on Saturday, Sept.23, 3:00 – 5:00 pm, in the fellowship’s building.
To sign up for this first session, please contact Lise Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Friday, Sept.15.
If you aren’t able to join us for that session, the group is an open group so you can contact Lise to find out when the group will be meeting next.
Give yourself the gift of enriching spiritual exploration in an affirming community.
