Principles of equality and justice compel Unitarian Universalists to advocate for marriage equality and other civil rights centering LBGTQ2S+ people. But who exactly has the “right” to love, date, get married or “shack up”, and to access intimacy and sexual pleasure? Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, this provocative reflection will reveal and probe the fact that many people with disabilities face disproportionate barriers to dating and forming couple relationships, and meeting their fundamental human need for intimacy. UU minister and EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion) consultant, Rev. Ren McFadyen promises to bring their frank and humorous perspective to this JUUST love conversation.
Rev Ren currently serves the UU congregation in Winnipeg as Interim Pastoral Minister. Ren also consults on evaluation and research projects, working extensively with organizations and institutions around anti racism and accessibility policies and programs. Ren’s doctoral research and a book being written for Skinner House will bring the jUUst Love conversation to wider circles.
Last October, Ren married their best friend and true love from Minnesota, Shelly Rohe. They are completing immigration paperwork and improving accessibility to an old house for their amazing life together in Nova Scotia.
